Why Choose St. Charles Seminary?
🔹 Authentic Orthodox Formation – Our curriculum is deeply rooted in Sacred Scripture, Holy Tradition, and the teachings of the Holy Fathers. We emphasize the Vincentian Canon (quod ubique, quod semper, quod ab omnibus) to ensure theological integrity.
🔹 A Global Orthodox Perspective – With a particular focus on the Eastern Orthodox missionary experience, our program engages with Eastern and Western Orthodox identity, while addressing Orthodox theological paradigms in Asian, Indic, and other non-Western and non-Christian contexts.
🔹 Spiritual & Pastoral Preparation – Our coursework integrates liturgical theology, spiritual warfare, Christian psychology, and pastoral care, equipping students for effective ministry in parishes, missions, and chaplaincy.
🔹 Expert Faculty & Scholars – Learn from experienced Orthodox theologians, clergy, and scholars, including specialists in conciliarity, apostolic authority, and patristic theology. Our program is also informed by contemporary Orthodox thinkers like St. Sophrony (Sakharov), St. Silouan the Athonite, Elder Joseph the Hesychast, Elder Aimilianos of Simonopetra, Georges Florovsky, Vladimir Lossky, Alexander Schmemann, John Meyendorff, Christos Yannaras, John Zizioulas, Metropolitan Hierotheos (Vlachos), Fr. Sergei Bulgakov, Fr. Pavel Florensky, Metropolitan Anthony Bloom, Metropolitan Kallistos (Ware), Fr. Dumitru Stăniloae, etc, engaging with themes of the Neo-Patristic Synthesis and the Orthodox Scholasticism of Neo-Palamism.
🔹 Western Orthodox Theological Orientation – At St. Charles Orthodox Institute & Seminary, we offer a unique and in-depth exploration of Anglo-Orthodoxy, tracing the deep historical and theological connections between Orthodox Christianity and the English tradition. Our program immerses students in the rich heritage of ancient Celtic Christianity, the missionary endeavors of St. Augustine of Canterbury, and the pre-schismatic Western Orthodox tradition, while also engaging with the Caroline Divines, the Nonjuring Fathers, and the Oxford Movement, whose works reflected Orthodox theological principles in the Western context. Students will study the key theological overlaps between conservative English Christianity and Orthodox theology, culminating in the Pan-Orthodox recognition of Western Orthodoxy through the 1923 Pan-Orthodox Conference and the 1936 Bucharest Agreement. This course of study is grounded in the vision of our Founding Fathers in the Faith—St. Tikhon of Moscow, St. Raphael of Brooklyn, and St. John Maximovitch—who labored tirelessly to foster the Orthodox Church’s engagement with the English-speaking world. Through this program, students will gain a profound understanding of how Orthodoxy has found expression in the West and how it continues to flourish in mission and theology today.
🔹Flexible & Accessible Learning – Study fully online, balancing academic excellence with your personal and vocational commitments. Whether you are preparing for ordination, deepening your faith, or pursuing advanced theological studies, our programs offer a structured yet adaptable learning experience.
🔹 Mission-Oriented & Culturally Engaged – Rooted in the missionary ethos of St. John Maximovitch, we prepare students to serve Christ in a rapidly changing world. Our program fosters a pan-Orthodox vision, equipping graduates to engage with diverse cultures while remaining faithful to the unchanging Gospel.
