Our Holy CHURCH

The Church

Our Archdiocese is an Eastern Orthodox missionary jurisdiction that was established in the United States in 1927 and has since grown into a global presence, now centered primarily in Asia while maintaining missionary dioceses and parishes around the world. Our foundation was laid by the holy labors of St. Tikhon of Moscow, St. John Maximovitch, and the Thrice-Blessed Patriarchs of our Church, who, through their apostolic zeal and unwavering commitment to the Gospel, nurtured and guided our missionary work. Rooted in the Orthodox tradition, we continue their legacy by bringing the fullness of the faith to diverse cultures, fostering vibrant liturgical communities, and upholding the unity of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church.

Do You Accept Catholic and Protestant Baptism?

Please talk to your local priest about your denominational background and the context of your original baptism. As a general rule, we receive Roman Catholics through Statement of Faith and the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Trinitarian Protestants who baptize according to Christ’s Command, in the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and who also uphold the Nicene Creed, teaching the full Divinity and Humanity of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, are generally received through Reconciliation and Holy Chrismation. Other denominations are received through Baptism and Chrismation.

What are the Archdiocesan Operating Hours?

We are open from 8 AM to 6 PM, Wednesday to Sunday. We’re closed on Monday. Holiday hours may vary, so please call or check our website for specific information on those dates.

How are Clergy Formed or Incardinated into the Archdiocese?

Our process is extensive, requires a Masters in Divinity or Equivalent, and requires a time of discernment and observation, under the guidance of a Spiritual Father. There are no shortcuts! We take the formation of our clergy very seriously, and to this end, have established a religiously accredited seminary, St. Charles Institute.

Can I Come in for Confession?

Yes, we offer the sacrament of Confession/Reconciliation before every liturgy. Parishes also offer this sacrament by appointment. Please contact your local priest.

What is Your Relationship to the Other Orthodox Churches and the Roman Catholic Church?

Our jurisdiction commemorates the Ecumenical Patriarchate in every liturgy, asking God’s grace and protection upon the 17 canonical Orthodox Churches of the world. Our relationship with the Ecumenical Patriarchate is amicable and open, asking for consideration according to His All Holiness +++Bartholomew’s proclamation concerning the validity of UAOC orders on October 18th, 2018. Our Church is recognized as valid but illicit by the Roman Catholic Church.

The Orthodox Archdiocese stands as a beacon of the ancient and unbroken Apostolic Faith, wherein the sacred liturgical and theological patrimony of both East and West is preserved in its fullness. Enshrined within our divine worship is the venerable Liturgy of Saint James, the Brother of the Lord, a most ancient and apostolic rite that embodies the pure and unadulterated worship of the primitive Church, predating the divisions of Christendom and bearing unbroken witness to the faith once delivered unto the saints.
